BALAMBAN, Cebu , June 7 (PIA) --- Parangan brothers continue to give pride to Balamban town as both grabbed the championship title from different lawn tennis competitions.

Ed Adrian Parangan, 14 and Francis Eduardo Parangan, 15 sons of Eduardo and Helen Parangan of Barangay Nangka, Balamban, Cebu were recently awarded as champions of the 2nd Palawan Pawnshop Express Pera Padala National Junior Tennis Circuit competition on April 5-7 at Sacata Inc. Tennic Club, San Carlos City.

The brothers won in their respective categories; Adrian for the boys 15 and under while Francis for the boys 18 and under.

This year’s summer vacation was indeed a fulfillment of the Parangan brother’s agility towards tennis for they both have won not only in one competition but in three more.

Ed Adrian and Francis already championed in the 24th Edition Junior Tennis Cup & Regional Workshop; Cebuana Lhuillier age group tennis series; 16th Gullas Tennis Cup; and Milo doubles in their own play categories.

Ed joyfully said, “Bisag walay premyo nga kwarta malipay kaayu mi nga makadawat ug trophy, medal ug plaque.”  (Even if there is no money price, we are happy to receive a trophy, medals and plaques.)

“Malipay pud mi ma-feature sa TV ug sa newspapers,” Francis added. (We are also happy that we will be featured on TV and in the newspapers).

Two school years ago the boys studied at the University of San Jose Recoletos– Balamban campus and because of Ed and Francis’s indisputable ability on tennis, both were transferred to USJR Basak campus to join the tennis varsity team of the university.

Tennis coach Manuel “Nonong” Cinco referred the boys to the USJR-Basak campus tennis varsity team.

“We are lucky to be part of the varsity team because we got the privilege of having free tuition fees, food and lodging, rocket strings and monetary allowance every time the team joins inter-school tournaments,” Ed and Francis confirmed these benefits.

Ed is now in his their third year in high school and dreams to be an engineer someday while Francis is in fourth year high school and wants to be a teacher.

To recall, in their elementary years at Balamban Central Elementary School they were also the pride of the school and tough contenders of their opponents every Central Visayas Region Athletic Association (CVIRAA), Provincial Meets and similar events as they also vigorously nabbed the championship titles in tennis.

When asked about their greatest achievement in the field of sports, Ed said that it was when Governor Gwen Garcia proclaimed him as the champion of the Palarong Pambansa in 2009 at Tacloban City and the awarding was staged at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Francis on the other hand shared that this summer was such a triumph for him because for the first time he championed in four different tennis competitions straight in his own category (18 & under).

The Parangan brothers are thankful for the support of their father who was also a tennis enthusiast since he was 30 years old.

“His love for tennis has been influential to our victories,” proudly said Ed and Francis. (PIA-7/mbcn & Balamban-IO Lavina Estela Narciso)
