‘Bayani Challenge’ a quieter, more passionate challenge to reclaim Pinoy pride

CEBU, March 26 (PIA) -- Some 30 families of San Miguel, a mountaintop barangay of San Remigio, Cebu never in their wildest dreams thought they could own houses for free.

San Miguel barangay captain Nichol Almojel was in for a big surprise when he was informed that his barangay was chosen as one of the sites for this year’s Gawad Kalinga Bayani Challenge 2013.

“Kinsa gud intawon ang magtuo nga mapilian gyud mi sa Gawad Kalinga, kay layo na bya mi sa highway, unya dili pa gyud sayon kaayo ang pagsulod dri sa among barangay kay medyo sudlonon gyud.” Almojel said. (Who would have thought that Gawad Kalinga will chose us, because we are far from the highway and it is not easy to get here.) (mbcn/AYS/PIA-7)
